Sam Nda Isaiah Resigns from Leadership, Join Race for Presidency under All Progressive Congress (APC)

Mr. Sam Nda Isaiah, publisher of Leadership newspaper, has resigned to run for president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under All Progressive Congress (APC) in the coming election in 2015. Mr. Isaiah posted on his Facebook wall that:

“I am joining the race for the presidency because I believe, and I know, that only BIG IDEAS and BIG DREAMS change a nation. And here I am talking of the kind of big ideas that have changed the course of history of some of the greatest nations of the world – whether it is Thomas Jefferson’s Louisiana land purchase, which accounts for as many as 15 states in today’s United States; J.F. Kennedy’s moon-landing programme; Deng Xiaoping’s China’s economic transformation programme; Lee Kuan Yew’s leap-frogging of Singapore from Third to First World; or Mandela’s lessons in tolerance and forgiveness. By the time we complete our tenure, Nigeria would not be the same again.”

Sam Nda Isaiah is from Niger State, the Middle Belt region of Nigeria and he is a Christain. In a country where religion matters a lot, something even more than competence, Sam Nda Isaiah may find it difficult to clinch the APC nomination, in fact it looks far fetched. However with the call for a Christian candidate from the APC to dose religious tension in the land and counter incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan, Sam Nda Isaiah may just get somewhere. Few people NEWISSUES spoke to are saying he has got no chance but that he can end up with a Minister or ambassadorial post.
