THE Zamfara State government, yesterday, postponed its launching of this year’s rainy season fertilizer sales, following the sudden resignation of the commissioner in charge of the ministry, Alhaji Malami Aliyu, few days to the ceremony.
Malami tendered his resignation from the state executive council and ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The former commissioner, who had been in charge of the Ministry of Agriculture in the last three years, submitted his resignation through the Office of Secretary to the State Government, SSG, and immediately vacated his office.
The resignation takes effect from tomorrow, although Malami was said to have left the state for Abuja for a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan.
Sources told Vanguard that though no reasons were given for his resignation, Aliyu took the decision to enable him contest the senatorial seat which he had been reportedly eyeing for a long time now.
However, apart from being dissatisfied with the style of Governor Abdulaziz Yari’s administration in the state, some of his political associates told Vanguard that the former commissioner decamped to the PDP where he believed he would be given an automatic ticket for the
Senate come 2015 election…
