ICPC detains Kano govt officials over 3.7bn fraud


KANO—Operatives of Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, have arrested top Kano State government functionaries to explain their role over alleged missing N3.7billion local government funds.

Those arrested include the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, the Accountant-General, Danjuma   Mahmud,   the Commissioner for Local Government,   Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, the Permanent Secretary ministries of finance and that of works.

Vanguard learned that the key government officials temporarily regained their freedom after spending four days in ICPC cell in Abuja and were asked to report to the anti-corruption agency every two days.

The development followed a petition by a Kano-based whistle blower,   and a Civil Engineer,   Ali Maishanu, that over N3billion was allegedly withdrawn from the account of the 44 local government areas of the state to sponsore the presidential ambition of unnamed aspirant.

Sequel to the controversy generated by the whistle blower, the police in Kano arraigned Ali Maishanu before a magistrate for being in possession of a fake  N70 million voucher which he allegedly used to blackmail unnamed All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential aspirant.

The ICPC ‘s raid on Kano has practically shut down governmental activities as key officials central to the running of government have partially relocated to Abuja.

Audu Bako secretariat located within the fringe of Nassarawa GRA that housed most government ministries in the city was a ghost town, following the development.

Confirming the development on phone, Kano Commissioner for Information,   Comrade Mohammed Garba, said Ganduje’s administration would cooperate with relevant agencies to entrench probity and accountability.
