Boko Haram terrorist group have launched a major attack on Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, Saturday night, since army released report that they have been incapacitated in December meeting the dateline the President Muhammad Buhari set for the army. They have been pockets of attacks here and there at the outskirt of Maiduguri, but this one is a major attack. The attack started at about 7.13pm.
The militants are said to have entered through Wanori village and started shooting sporadically. They advanced to Dalori opposite the University of Maiduguri, setting homes ablaze.
Hundreds of residents of Dalori, a suburban settlement 5km on the outskirts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, have fled their homes as Boko Haram insurgents attacked on Saturday night, residents said.
Many are said to have been killed and injured by the insurgents who took the quiet village by surprise at about 7pm.
The spokesman of the Nigerian Army in the city, Colonel Mustapha Anka, confirmed the attack but declined details on casualty likely to have been incurred in the attack.
