Suddenly this administration is distancing itself from some promises it made to the people and have forgotten their utterances before and after the presidential campaign. When asked by a foreign journalist in Kebbi airport when the election was postponed by the previous administration because they said they wanted to ensure Boko Haram did not disrupt the election, Muhammadu Buhari waved it off, saying “What is Boko Haram?,” connoting that Boko Haram are a piece of cake. Honestly a lot of Buhari’s supporters were saying that the General, now President would just come and use his Commando experience to end this whole drama in few months.
To be fair to the president after he won the election he told the media in another interview when asked if he would fight Boko Haram or negotiate, he responded, “With what?,” preferring negotiation with the terrorist group. In fact Buhari later said his government is negotiating with Boko Haram on the Chibok girls. Then after a while we heard nothing again about this negotiation.
Then the government announced that they have finished Boko Haram and we heard nothing about the Chibok girls and others who are Boko Haram hostages. The government didn’t even care to explain what is going on to anybody. The body language of this administration shows that they still don’t really care about their own citizens as they should, like previous government. With this attitude how are we going to see the change?
Where are the Chibok girls? Don’t tell me to ask Goodluck Jonathan, I am asking President Muhammadu Buhari and believe me what he is saying is unacceptable. Like I have said over and over again, how can we say we don’t know their whereabouts with all the Boko Haram members we have captured and all the people we have rescued from Boko Haram. What are our intelligence doing? Now that the likes of Interior Minister, Danbazau, has turned our DSS members to boyi boyi, we know exactly what they are doing.
What is more embarrassing is President Buhari telling #Bringbackourgirls that he would set up another committee to investigate the Chibok kidnap. I really thought this should be top priority. The Chibok issue and others is no longer Goodluck Jonathan’s responsibilities but that of President Buhari. Is he still negotiating with Boko Haram? He has always favoured negotiation. Some of us have always known that you don’t negotiate with the likes of Boko Haram. The question we never ask is if Boko Haram want to negotiate.
I am really worried for the Chibok girls, disappointed as government’s lack of seriousness at the urgency of rescuing them. I am losing hope day by day as I cling to hope and pray that we find them alive. I am losing hope because I am losing faith in government because from all indication the Chibok girls are not top priority. They are just village girls and daughters of poor Nigerians. Thank God for BBOG, if not they would have been forgotten.
