The Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision has affirmed the election of Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike as Governor of Rivers State.
In reaching this judgment and reversing both the Rivers State Election Tribunal and the Court of Appeal, the Apex Court made it abundantly clear that Card Readers which are only contained in the Electoral Guidelines cannot under any circumstance override the Voters Register which is clearly mentioned in the Electoral Act 2010, as amended.
According to the Supreme Court, nullifying an election based on the card readers alone will amount to making the Electoral Act, an Act of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria inferior to ordinary Electoral Guidelines made by INEC.
