The innocent-looking boy in this photo, Musa Salisu from Kano State, Nigeria, has been viciously killed by kidnappers. The 10-year-old was taken hostage Monday last week by his captors. According to Rariya, an online Hausa news medium, the victim was seized at 2 PM at Unguwar Naibawa in the Kano Metropolis and taken to unknown location by his captors.
A family source told the Hausa news medium that they didn’t know the fate of the boy on the day he was seized until three hours later in the day when an unknown voice contacted the family, demanding 500 million naira ransom from his parents. He said while finding ways to meet the kidnappers demand, they also informed the police of the incident.
The family spokesman Kafinta Salisu said they contacted the kidnappers the following day to discuss how to raise the ransom money and how the captors intended to collect it at their own chosen location or spot. Unfortunately, he said, the captors told them that they had already slaughtered the boy “like a ram” and dumped his corpse on the outskirts of Kano City.
The killers described the location they dumped his body, and true to their words, the corps was found there by family members. He has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
This dastardly evil against this innocent boy is a valid justification of the recent legislation by the National Assembly, imposing the death penalty on kidnappers when convicted. In fact, if there is any punishment worse than death, the kidnappers deserve it. These low-lives deserve not to live. If the sanctity of life means nothing to these cowardly criminals, then justice must apply to them with the gravest severity.
