The Katsina state government has procured 720 high breed goats for distribution to women under the Women Empowerment Scheme.
The scheme costs N104 million, which was part of the N2 billion loan obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by the state government for the development of Small Scale and Medium Entrepreneurship.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Governor Aminu Masari said the loan would attract nine per cent interest rate which the administration had obliged to bear.
The Special Adviser to the governor on Economic Empowerment, Abdulkadir Nasir, said 240 women were selected from the 34 local government areas (LGAs) as beneficiaries. “’The goats are insured for one year and veterinary officers will be going round all the LGAs to provide medication that may be necessary,’’ he said.
