A poll conducted by NEWISSUES magazine shows that seven in every ten people who voted President Muhammadu Buhari still believe that the president can still change the country for the better, sighting that previous administrations and the PDP government were responsible for economic recession that plague this nation today. 30% however are now uncertain but still believe the president can change the country if he reshuffles his cabinet as they believe the people around him are incompetent and may drag the president down.
However, the president has not been able to get the people who didn’t vote for him during the presidential election of 2015 to change their minds to support him. Nine out of ten people who didn’t vote for the president and who did not support him say the president has lost it and would fail.
This is however an online poll and majority of Nigerians are not online. Nigeria has about 200 million population and only 18 million are on Facebook. This poll may not reflect the feelings of the country right now.
On the streets a lot of the masses are already grumbling about this administration, the rising prices of food and other commodities, unemployment, corruption of employment in government, the rising price of dollars that has affected businesses and the business community that is getting some members of the administration and the APC openly criticizing the president and his team. The fact is that Buhari is not as popular as he was in his stronghold nowadays as his support base is beginning to crack.
