A lecturer with the University of Maiduguri, Dr. Aji Isuwa Suleiman, has reported that all surgeries have been canceled in the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Borno State, due to what the hospital described as lack of consumables.
Dr. Aji Suleiman made this known on his wall on Facebook. He wrote:-
“Scheduled for surgery today, been on admission since Wednesday. Just when it’s about to start, was sticked with my details on my arm n about to be rolled out of the room, I was told all operations has been cancelled bc there are no operation consumables!!….haba Naija, na only we come? Teaching hospital no consumables everybody discharged? UMTH I hail thee…… Well, I guess it’s for my good. I pray for strength n good health until they are ready…”
Dr. Aji Suleiman told one of the people who wrote on his wall sympathizing with him that he had problem with urinating.
One would think a hospital in the heart of Boko Haram problem would have all that is needed for such. It is bizzare to see that hospital as reputable as UMTH has postponed operation till further notice, meaning people with serious ailment that need urgent surgery would definitely be in danger.
