Despite pressure from Ecowas and other Western powers and threats to use military force to remove him from office, President Yahya Jammeh of Gambia has refused to bulge and stood his ground on not handing over power to presidential-elect Adama Barrow.
He just declared a state of emergency and extended his stay in power to three months when the is supposed to handover tomorrow.
The Gambia president who has been in power for since 1994 conducted an election, lost, called the winner to congratulate him on video which was shared on social media and watched all over the world, only to come back and turn around after few days that the election was rigged.
Some West African leaders have tried mediate and convince President Yahya Jammeh whose tenure elapse tomorrow to resign but he has remained obsitinate and ready for whatever outcome.
Nigerian media have reported that Nigerian warship is stationed in The Gambia ready to oust Mr. Jammeh. From how things have gone so far, it looks that may be the only solution to this impasse.
President-Elect, Adama Barrow has been taken to Senegal by the West African mediators because of any eventuality.
