Tomiwa Faleke It was gathered that there are serious attempts to make electoral officers of INEC Anambra State who conducted the presidential and National Assembly Elections of March 28th 2015, Scapegoats in the commissions on going probe of bribery allegations of the 2015 general elections. Independent findings carried out by the NEW NIGERIA AGENDA has revealed that there are indeed deliberate attempts to falsely accuse them of electoral bribery on the 2015 general elections contrary to available evidence pointing to the contrary. Available evidence showed how the money that they were being accused of using to bribe voters were received on the authority of INEC in the state through the Administrative Secretary, one Mr. Lee Oscar Amaechi, who is presently Administrative Secretary in Edo State. It was gathered that on the 28th of March 2015, all the electoral officers were summoned to the office where they were given the money to pay to adhoc workers who worked in their respective Local Government Areas. According to our sources, the payment which was made based on the directive of the Administrative Secretary Mr. Lee Oscar Amaechi saw Supervising Presiding Officers being paid N50,000 each while all the Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding officers were each paid the sum of N10,000. It was also gathered that receipts used in the payment to the SPO, PO’s and APO’s which were made available to the investigating team of the NEW NIGERIA AGENDA, were actually returned to the accounts and Finance Department after the payment, which has been the practice over the years. It is also very instructive to note here that the EFCC actually requested for the payment receipts and which the state office readily availed them of all, the receipts having been in their custody. Our investigating teams were also able to collaborate the fact that the trio of Mr. Lee Oscar Amaechi, Engr. Nwatalari (REC) and Gilbert Okolocha informed the EFCC operatives that electoral officers were not told of the source of the money, but merely followed official directives handed over to them by the Administrative Secretary to pay the Adhoc Workers who were not even recruited by the electoral officers. These revelations notwithstanding, if seems the investigation has taken a different turn as the man at the center of it all, Mr. Lee Oscar Amaechi seem to have been left off the hook while officers who obeyed lawful directive from their boss are being queried. As at time of publishing this report, all efforts made to get a response from INEC Officer to these has been unsuccessful, but verifiable document officially used by INEC to disburse the funds to the electoral officers for payment, confirm that payments were actually made. More reports will follow as we unravel the INEC BRIBE SCANDAL.
