NEWISSUES, Abuja

In a joint press conference in Abuja, several groups have called on the Nigeria police to released the National Commander of the Peace Corps, Ambassador (Dr.) Dickson A.O. Akoh  and 47 other Peace Corps members.

They were arrested Peace Corps of Nigeria headquarter at Jabi, Abuja, Tuesday, 28th February, 2017. Some of the Peace Corps members were beaten and hospitalized.

The groups demanding for the unconditional release of Ambassador Akoh and the others are the National Youth Council of Nigeria, National Youth Demcracy Congress, Nigeria Media Network Against Corruption and others.

Just two weeks ago the Nigerian Peace Corps training ground was raided by the Nigerian police who warned that the Peace Corps must take permission from them before any of such. The police have also complained about the camp in Kubwa and it is seems as one of the main reason why the Peace Corps is being targeted.

Nigerians have been reacting over this arrest and have been saying the police just want to flex some muscles as they did similar thing with the Civil Defense. Many are urging the Nigerian police to release the Corps members with immediate effect and apologies for them for whole harrasment.

NEWISSUES learned that those arrested were paraded at the Force Headquarter Wednesday evening.
