Sadiya Umar Farouq of Fed Comm. Nat Comm for Refugees, Migrants and IDPs, the woman that is in the center of diversion of 200 tonnes of dates fruit donated by the Saudi Arabian government in the ramadan period for the IDPs is claiming character assassination after Daily Nigerian, an online media, reported that she diverted the dates to her state in Zamfara and shared bulk of it to the Emirs.
The story went viral when the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that the Nigerian government have apologized to the Saudi Arabian government over dates donated by the Kingdom to the IDP camps for IDPs being sold on the streets of Nigeria. Outraged Nigerians immediately started calling for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible. Sadiya Umar Farouq’s name was listed as responsible for this diversion.
She never denied the allegation until her name came up and it went viral. In an attempt to clear herself she is claiming character assassination and false allegation against her and the NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR REFUGEES, MIGRANTS AND IDPS.
On allegation that the dates were shared to royal families, she has this to say.
“On the accusation that Dates were taken to traditional rulers, indeed they were. Primarily because the IDPs live in their domains as host communities. We have no doubt that the royal fathers carried out the assignment of Distribution diligently.”
Many Nigerians don’t trust the emirs with such responsibilities and what they are asking is whether it is the emirs that have been sharing these donations to the IDPs all these while.
