The Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State has established a law to ban alcohol sale, prostitution and gambling in the area, the council chairman Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi has said.
He said the law was established to implement the Islamic sharia law practiced in the state, adding that the council had decided to establish the law considering increase of criminal and social vices in the area.
Lawal said apart from selling of alcohol and prostitution, the bye law would ban the cinemas and games of chance as well as related offences that could lead to increase in criminal activities in the society.
“Our legislative council had made all the necessary arrangement before we established the law. We contacted our mother ministry, the ministry for local government and chieftaincy affairs. We have also worked hand in hand with the state Ministry of Justice, state Hisba Commission, Islamic scholars and all other relevant stakeholders for the success of the law,” he said.
