Muslim mob has been reported to have lynched a food vendor in Kasuwan-Garba town, Mariga LGA of Niger state, over alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

The incident reportedly happened on Saturday after the woman, identified as Amaye, made comments considered offensive while interacting with a customer in her restaurant.

The customer was said to have jokingly proposed marriage to her, citing the tradition of the Prophet, after which she made the alleged blasphemous remarks.

According to reports online, the woman was first taken to the palace of the district head of Kasuwan-Garba, who then handed her over to security operatives for investigation.

Afterwards, the mob reportedly overwhelmed the security operatives and lynched her.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson of the Niger police command, told TheCable that the woman was burnt before additional security teams could arrive at the scene.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson of the Niger police command, told media that the woman was burnt before additional security teams could arrive at the scene.

“On 30/8/2025 at about 2pm, a report received indicated that one Amaye, a female of Kasuwan-Garba, Mariga LGA, made some comments against the Islamic prophet,” the police spokesperson said.

“Unfortunately, it led to a mob attack, and she was set ablaze before the reinforcement of the security teams.

Nobody has verified exactly what the woman said. Lynching people in the name of Blasphemy has become the new normal in Nigeria with both state and federal government simply looking the other way. The government has not spoken about the incident.
