HE abandoned his wife in the UK and ran to Nigeria with people's money to marry a new wife.

By George Onmonya Daniel

Mr. Slyvester Imbuo Adie was in Nigeria, marrying another wife when his four former coursemates he dupped over N50 million sll thought he was somewhere in the United Kingdom. He had collected £7,500 from three of them, £4,000 from one, with the promise of connecting them with an employer offering Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) and suddenly went into hiding after taking their money. CoS is an electronic reference number issued by a UK-licensed employer (a sponsor) to a foreign national. It's not a physical document, but a record that proves the job offer complies with immigration rules, making it a necessary step for the worker to apply for a UK work or student visa. The employer assigns the CoS to the employee, who then uses the provided reference number to complete their visa application.

When he was still communicating with them, lying that he was in the UK, Slyvester Imbuo Adie had run to Nigeria to marry another wife, abandoning his wife in the UK. They met him at the University of Sussex when they were Masters degree students. After completing the course, Slyvester Imbuo Aide moved to Sheffield. As classmates do they were in contact through an alumna WhatsApp group. It was here that they connected with Slyvester, who claimed his employer offers CoS at a certain price. They visited him at Sheffield when he collected the cash and disappeared, informing them that his employer, an Indian man, was arrested by the British Police immediately he handed the money to the man. He claimed he was lucky to have escaped.

(Below are event at the wedding shared by his brother on his Facebook page)

When I was contacted by a Ghanaian who was one of the victims of Slyvester Imbuo Adie's fraudulent scheme, I asked for his number and contacted him immediately. When we were talking and claimed to be in his house in UK, he had abandoned his wife and was marrying another woman in Nigeria. When Slyvester tried to keep this marriage secret, his excited brother who calls himself Tom Luciano posted the photos of the marriage on his Facebook account.

When I contacted him again to ask of his whereabouts, informing him I am a journalist who has interest in this story, he wrote back on WhatsApp claiming he was in the UK and promised he would come down to Brighton to see me if I fix an appointment. I sent him the photos of his marriage in Nigeria to confirm he was lying. He quickly wrote that the his friends assumed he was married, but unknown to them he wasn't married.

Mr. Slyvester Imbuo Adie from Obudu in Cross River is somewhere in Nigeria enjoying money he dupped from friends in the United Kingdom, obviously leading his friends and family to believe he has come home from overseas with money he worked for.
