The governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, claimed five policemen killed in Darazo, Bauchi State were killed due to crisis within the community and not Fulani bandits.
The Bauchi State Police Command had on Sunday announced the death of five personnel in what it described as an ambush by bandits (suspected gunmen) in Sabon Sara village, Darazo LGA.
The command’s spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil, said the officers were attacked while responding to distress calls from the community.
However, speaking during the opening of the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, Mohammed dismissed the claim, insisting that the incident was rooted in community-related issues, not banditry. The governor did not clarify the community conflict he was talking about even as he tries to downplay the killing of five policemen.
He added that schools will be closed down for possible students abduction. Despite trying to exonerate the bandits he fear they may attack school in the spat of kidnapping that has seen several governors close down schools.
