What Direction Is Nigeria Going?

What direction is Nigeria going? Perhaps, thats not the question we should be asking, but what direction is the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government leading Nigeria to? As crystal as it is to tell, it is very difficult to just spit out because some experts would argue the government has done some things right, giving an appearance of a glimpse of hope that people should be optimistic. I don’t share that optimism. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not leadig Nigeria anywhere one that tangibly visible. Nigeria simply seem adrift.

The Tinubu administration had given up on security before the United States intervention over Christian Genocide that has given hope to the people of the nation. The mass killings that is going on daily by Fulani herdsmen does not seem to bother the president. Tinubu doesn’t want to offend them, or the Islamist Jihadists prowling killing people all over the Middle Belt region. I think he thinks declaring total war on them would make him lose support in a north where many had been sympathetic to the Fulani herdsmen and some of the Islamists. What Tinubu is failing to see is that the people of the far north are so tired of being massacred that they would give him all the support nowadays. I don’t know but it seems Nuhu Ribadu isn’t telling Tinubu exactly what is going on for reasons best known to him. Some people are beginning to see Nuhu Ribadu as protecting the bandits because they are from his ethnic group. Can you blame them? Of course not.

Recently, Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State and the former FCT Minister, has criticised the federal government for the kinetic and non kinetic approach of negotiating with the Fulani herdsmen. Nasir El-Rufai insisted the federal government should take the war to the bandits and deal with them seriously. He said until they know they can be defeated they wouldn’t stop the aimless attacks on Nigerians. critics have attacked Nasir El-Rufai for paying the bandits first when he was governor. In fact, Tinubu’s nonchalance over the security situation tells you the country is just adrift without direction.

Another problem is that Nigerians have given up on the fight against corruption. The government has simply lost it. When President Buhari pays lip service to fighting corruption, Tinubu doesn’t even do that or make any efforts to. The people in the opposition who are being investigated for corruption are using the same old trick to blackmail him, accusing him of protecting the members of his party and targeting opposition. There is no way Nigeria can make headway with the shameless abuses of public office and wanton corruption. As Tinubu is busy talking tax, most Nigerian are not excited as Nigerians perceive the tax accrued would be looted anyway.

When government would tell you that they have stabilised the economy, the price of commodity in the country has quadrupled and people cannot afford basic things like decent three meals a day. Malnutrition has increased in rural areas due to the rural communities not being able to farm due to insecurity and high rate of death being recorded among children/infants due to hunger.

Generally, the government of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu looks incapable of leading Nigeria to the future Nigerians dream of, likewise the opposition, who have no clue as they haven’t articulate how to lead Nigeria into the future. The scary thing is that the opposition are only interested in power and not the people. Nigeria’s future looks grim.
